--------fluff fest--------!

1917 was the year Archibald Query invented Fluff right here in Somerville's Union Square. Although never a fan per se, as I was raised on natural peanut butter & honey sandwiches, missing out on the diabetes delight itself...Nevertheless, a local staple that almost cost a politician his Cambridge post for suggesting the schools in MA ban it for health reasons...

September-feast!

Cheers! Wilkommen to October & Fall's bounty !
squash pie (made by yours truly!) set the stage last Friday to welcome in a weekend of cooking & baking wonderful food, & thereby ushering in my favorite season, Fall. Skye then baked up some oatmeal cookies & dished up some wonderful turkey sausage/kale/tomato stew for that evening...along with some tasty Oktoberfests! Saturday morning came struggling through the gale-like blustery storms spun off of Hurricane Kyle & we decided to just hunker down for a wet weekend. Skye served up some awesome pumpkin pancakes, sausage & fried green tomatoes ...what a brunch, mmmm...Sunday, we added to leftover pancakes, a grand breakfast quiche full of apples, cheese & sausage...Sufficiently stuffed, we just hung out in the house as the rains beat down & turned Beacon Street into a white-capped stream. Sunday afternoon we felt the pressure to at least leave the house, allowing a fantastic beef stew to simmer in the crock pot, which worked out fine, as the rain let up just in time....

Some Some-rville

well, they start'em young here...

last weekend of the Summer....Apples!

ahh, the apple orchard

So...Sunday noon: Skye & I awoke oddly not hungover (well, Skye less so), considering theprior night's debauchery. We had planned to meet up with Pete, Jenni, Bryan, Buffi, Tom, Vic, Lisa, Michaela, Moo, Carolyn & Jonathan to head out to Stow to pick apples. With their fidgety brood providing unseen entertainment to us, we all all convened & had a lovely day picking apples on the rolling orchards, ending at the farmhouse where there were home-made cider doughnuts & hot-dogs! Huzzah ! Now where's the Octoberfest & apple-rum?

last weekend of Summer...day 2 part 3...party!

Septemberfest, ja!

So...Saturday night saw a party on the grounds of the old Stoodio 53; in fact numerous attendees had reported being at such 53 parties in the past with SCUL or after Abbey shows...what started as a fairly relaxed shared mixer, celebrating an upstairs neighbor's birthday & house warming get together for another, soon slid down the skid into drunken hilarity. It was probably the most ethnically diverse party we've ever had. Amongst the 50-75 people crowding our backyard, drinking from the boat, eating home-made delights, were Russians, French, Ukrainians, Japanese, Koreans (incl. one drunk ex-cop), Germans and even real Canadians! Mid-way through, the bane of the 53's life, Mrs. Perry, aka "the Cunt", had called the cops. Needless to say, while I hung back, noting that it "wasn't MY party", and noting that the landlords, Tom & Vic,were there, as well as Laura (the b-day girl), it was soon evident that everyone expected me to talk to the cops, as I've always done in the past. So, following tradition (which has seen cops actually hang out & drink with us in the past), I spoke with them. Being Somerville's finest, they are actually quite reasonable, which is always refreshing...& they were invited to stay and have a drink, needless to say. So....the party moved inside, the fire pit extinguished & the boat-load of beer moved inside, clearing the yard for rats to nibble on leftovers...Great Octoberfests & Skye's magical vodka martinis fueled the inner fire, leading to the heckling a Darby Crash look-a-like youngster. By 4am, the party dissipated & we all found sleep's embrace.

truly became a boatload later
cheers!
